I decided to follow the Larry and Lin Pardy ethos of Go Small Go Now rather than wait to afford a big seaboat and bought the plans in late 1998. This tough little boat was built to the Roger Dongray design in 18 months. It took about 1400 hours to go from the set of 1:10 plans and pile of wood to have the completed cedar strip expoxy boat ready for the water. Like most such projects, by the time each job was done, you knew how to do it for next time!

 

Just Right was launched at the Brest 2000 festival and the maiden voyage was on a blustery sunny day. An amazing experience when the sails filled and away she went for the first time. Not entirely without a bit of fun and games learning to bleed the fuel system (in French subtitles) and a few unexpected leaks and excitements.

 

A few days of pottering around Rade de Brest with the Cornish Shrimper fleet in company saw her in reasonable shipshape condition. After the festival week she was trailed back to her home for the next few years at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole, where she began her coastal and Channel and coastal adventures and adaptations.
